It depends on your vehicle, the kit it needs and whether extras like brake upgrades are required. Every GVM upgrade includes heavy-duty suspension components, a full vehicle assessment and weighing, engineering compliance certification and the registration update with SA Transport — so we quote per vehicle. Is a GVM upgrade legal in SA?
Yes — when it's done with an engineered, certified kit. Every GVM upgrade we install comes with full engineering compliance certification, and the new rating is registered with SA Transport. That certification is what makes the upgrade legal on the road, not just the parts themselves.
Does a GVM upgrade affect insurance?
A certified GVM upgrade is there to protect your cover. If you're carrying more than your factory GVM allows, you're driving an overloaded vehicle — and that can put claims at risk. With a certified upgrade, your vehicle is legally rated for the load it's actually carrying. As with any modification, let your insurer know so it's noted on your policy.
Which vehicles can be upgraded?
